Impressive Sensor!

IMAGES:Please view the images I uploaded.SUMMARY:I bought this to add some light to my parking area, back patio and alley. Overall a good quality security-light. The floodlights and sensor are independently adjustable. The floods and the mounting plate are metal but the rest is plastic. The flood's mounting arms are rigid plastic with vertical and horizontal adjustments. The sensor, although plastic, is definitely the best feature: very sensitive to human movement. Comes with a well-written installation manual that includes detailed diagrams.To best suit my suburban setting, I ended up having to take the unit apart and mount the sensor separately from the floodlights. If you live in a townhouse community, I'd recommend just buying the sensor (RAB STL360 Super Stealth Sensor, Bronze) and finding separate, adjustable T-type bulb floods.After a lot of trial and error, I mounted the floods 30-feet and the sensor 10-feet off of the ground, running the wiring through waterproof conduit between the two weatherproof boxes. Because the floods don't point down (detailed later), I rotated the flood's mounting arms 180° to allow the lights to be pointed downward. The finished product is exactly what I need: Very sensitive motion sensor and light where I want it (and not where I don't).DUAL SENSORS:RAB recommends mounting the sensor 6-10 feet off the ground. To lessen the likelihood of tampering, I mounted it at 10'. The sensitivity of the 180° forward-sensor was very impressive: At ~25-ft. away, it sensed me taking a half-step. At ~15-ft. away, I only shifted my weight when I was "caught". The 360° downward-sensor is a nice bonus: It isn't as sensitive but it does cover the forward-sensor's "blind spot". The sensor-unit has full left/right and up/down swivel adjustments to fine-tune the aim of the sensor.FLOODSSince the 2 floodlights are identical, I'll describe a single flood to keep it simple. The light spread is impressive, with a sharp horizontal cutoff at the top and bottom. In an environment where you need to control the light spill (urban, suburban), these halogen T-type floods are far superior to PAR-type floods. The arm has up/down and left/right swivel adjustments to help aim the light. Oddly, it can point straight up but its downward adjustment is VERY LIMITED. When adjusted to its down-most setting, the top horizontal light cutoff is parallel to the top of the light fixture. In other words, when the top of the fixture is mounted 11-ft high, the light will shine parallel to the ground, 11-ft high. In a townhouse community, this is a good way to make enemies with your neighbors! I got around this by rotating the mounting arms 180°. But doing this blocked the sensor's peripherals, requiring the floods to be mounted separately.

It just works

I put up three of these lights on my house a couple months ago because the old lights had sensors that were unreliable. The old lights would turn on when the wind blew or during the day or would not turn on at all if the movement was too far away. These Rab lights were easy to install and adjust and they only turn on when they are supposed to. Finally a yard light that works!
