5Lightweight, durable, versatile
By Griffin Klema
I have owned this watch for nearly five years. I purchased this timepiece for everyday use and versatility in occasion. That said, I tend more towards a simple, classy watch rather than the (supposedly) more masculine monstrosities with all manner of dials, buttons, and attendant bulk. To me, this is unnecessary and destroys the timeless elegance of the simple wristwatch. So, the following review is written from that perspective.Initially, and most importantly, the Japanese movement is very accurate, and I have never have to adjust the time. When the battery was nearly dead (lasted about 3.5 years) the watch quickly stopped, and did not have a prolonged death which I have experienced with other watches where the movement slows gradually and renders the time frustratingly inaccurate. The replacement battery was cheap: $7 at my local watch repair place. I have medium length arm hair and was concerned about wearing a watch with a metal band, but the construction of the band is such that no hair gets caught. I prefer that only the hands and hour spots illuminate in the dark rather than the entire watch face, as this makes for a more classy and understated look. Oddly, however, Seiko opted not to use a different luminescent indicator at 12 position, so identifying the top of the hour in the dark is not intuitive. The non-luminescent hour indicators are each a single polished bar of metal except for the 12 spot, which has a double bar. Also, I wish more dress watches used tritium illumination. Compared to "regular" glow in the dark illumination (photoluminescence), tritium (radioluminescence) does not require light to illuminate, and emits light continuously for years, whereas with regular illumination the brightness fades within an hour after exposure to light. I have worn this watch daily, for work and recreation, though I wouldn't recommend it for serious outdoors activities. The white face provides a neutral color, allowing it to be worn with anything, and goes especially well with business or other formal attire, particularly due to its thin profile which permits its use with cuffed dress shirts. Finally, many of the following pros/cons are quite dependent on personal taste, as stated earlier. This being my first metal-banded watch, my goal was to purchase a durable timepiece that could be worn at any occasion, from formal to casual. The Seiko SGG705 fits those preferences perfectly.Pros:- Lightweight, significantly so compared to steel or gold- Clean, simple design renders the watch more classy without the "rugged" bulky look, including non-numerical hour indicators- Thin bezel and band, makes it easy to wear with buttoned cuffs on dress shirts- Day and date indicator, including color for weekend days (blue-sat, red-sun)- Durable sapphire watch face provides a very hard, scratch-resistant surface (though it can scratch if you really punish it)- White neutral background color makes the watch versatile, wearable with any color clothing, and provides excellent contrast, permitting quick determination of the time at a glance- Band does not catch arm hair- Water resistant (I have swam with this watch many times, including hot tubs)- Only the hour spots and hands illuminate in the dark (as compared to other watches where the entire face illuminates)- Good battery life (~3.5 years)- Clasp still holds tightly after five years of use, though on rare occasion a hard jolt of the hand will force it openCons:- Unlike 12 position does not have double dot, and is also the same color as the other hour positions, making determination of the time in the dark more difficult- No perpetual date, must adjust date at end of non-31 day months- Watch hands' illumination is the same color, rendering hour versus minute determination more difficult (though the length and width of each is different, which helps)- Night illumination uses traditional photoluminescence, rather than perpetual tritium illumination-------------------------------UPDATE June 18, 2012:I have now noticed that the movement of the minute hand has become slightly jerky at each tick of the second hand. Despite this development, the watch still keeps time accurately. Also, after many years of abuse, the face has developed some scratches. During the first two years I owned this watch, it hardly scratched, and I think I became too complacent with wearing it while doing tasks that would inevitably damage the face (e.g. wrenching on my car and other related high impact chores involving sharp metal edges). So I would not attribute these scratches to inferior materials, but rather owner misuse.Unlike another reviewer, I have not experienced any clasp or band related problems. The watch will only become unclasped if a significant jarring force is applied to it while on my wrist.

5Classy and super-light!
By clinician
This Seiko Titanium watch is simple, classy, elegant and the lightest watch I have ever tried out. The titanium casing and titanium bracelet make for a deceptively and amazing light watch. Sometimes I forget I have it on!

5WEAR IT ALL THE TIME
By Joe H
It has been the perfect watch for me. I liked the Skagen which is a bit thinner but their quality has dropped and I had one of the unexplained bezel cracks. The Seiko looks good It is easy to read even in low light. I have swam and showered with it.I am happy to have spent a little more (than my old Skagen)
