5Wonderful for the price!
By Ariel
This pen seems to be made for women. It is thin as far as most fountain pens go. The ink flow is smooth and the nib is not scratchy for stainless steel. Esthetically, the pen is beautiful -- light and shimmery w/flecks of gold? or silver? The weight feels good in the hand. Not too heavy but it does feel solid. Overall, quite a bargain for the price. I will be using this one often!

4Just Lovely
By Budget Betty
While I'll never give up my good old keyboard, there's something to be said for the visceral pleasure of just jotting down words on paper. While one could write just as effectively with a regular old ball-point pen, having this lovely fountain pen is a nice luxury. The only reason that I invested in this pen was because I had heard that fountain pens, with their free-flowing ink, helped to prevent writer's cramp. Of course, being new to fountain pens, I was initially a little struck by the price tag. There were many cheaper alternatives, but none that I found as aesthetically pleasing as this pen. I figured, "Hey, why not?" and decided to splurge a little.I'm very glad that I did. The pen itself is a pleasing dark blue with a soft, pretty sheen. The little silver flecks are a nice touch that add a little bit of glamour without appearing garish. So far, I have found the grip to be very comfortable. (Check out the listing for the Cross Century II Starlight Midnight Blue Fountain Pen FINE Stainless Steel Nib for pics). The medium nib provides the generous line that I was hoping for. However, one complaint is that this pen doesn't hold very much ink. This is a little bit annoying for me because I tend to write for a few hours at a time and typically run out of ink on a daily basis. If you have similar writing habits, my advice is to completely forgo the pre-loaded cartridges and just fill the pen manually with the piston converter (this is included). It's a little bit more effort, but at least I don't ever have to worry about running out of cartridges. I bought the 4-pack of Cross black ink (available here on Amazon for only $16) so I should have enough ink on hand for a long time.I'm pretty sure that Amazon has the best price on both the pen and the ink. On the Cross website, this same pen was going for $99 and one bottle of ink was priced at about $10. Clearly, Amazon has the best deal. I'm not sure how they do it--I really doubt that there is any compromise in quality. My pen was shipped in a pretty brown gift box that (I'm pretty sure) comes with Cross pens purchased at regular price. Nevertheless, I was able to buy it at a substantial discount. One caveat is that, since this seems to be marketed mostly to women, the barrel size might feel a little thin to most men. My husband loves this pen, but can't use it for long periods of time because the barrel is uncomfortably small for him.

5Excellent writer
By P. Mack
This is a fairly slim fountain pen with a smooth, reliable medium nib (so it writes a fairly bold line). It is a very solid feeling pen, relatively heavy for its size. It takes ink cartridges or a converter that sucks up ink from a bottle (but you need to use fountain pen ink only, not the ink used for calligraphy dip pens). The blue is a matte finish that isn't slippery to hold and the stars are small, subtle, and pretty.
