The Harrisville Designs Easy Weaver is a rigid heddle table loom that offers a great way for children and adults alike to discover the basic techniques of real tapestry weaving and to produce a beautiful woven tapestry that they can be proud of. Weaving is a quiet activity that encourages concentration and gives them a sense of accomplishment as they create their own designs. Weaving also helps children understand spatial relationships while developing fine motor control and building self confidence.
This kit includes everything needed to create a surprising variety of woven pieces such as a scarf, table runner, doll blanket or palcemats! Included are an 18" long x 18" wide by 6 1/2" tall loom, enough tartan plaid 100% wool yarn to weave 3 1/2 yards of fabric approximately 15" wide, 2 16" wooden stick shuttles, and complete illustrated instructions. Made in the USA.

Weak Weaver

Design vs Dollars; dollars wins again. The choice between good design and construction versus costs is a challenge for most people who have their eye on the bottom line. Here too someone decided they should cut corners on the construction in order to keep the cost down. If it's really a choice of a few dollars why not make up the difference in quantity, sell more of them by building in quality. Then this review would have been raving.The weaver is still cool for most pre-teens and teens, maybe even younger. Just using it gives you an elementary understanding of weaving and you can't help but wonder how large textile manufacturers do it on larger scales. But like I started out saying, they cut one of the most critical corners in any design. A single point failure in the ratchet gear mechanism. It doesn't engage the ratchet completely thus it pops out and doesn't hold the fabric in place. I'm handy so replacing the gear mechanism is not too difficult but something so simple shouldn't be the failure of the entire toy. But it is.

Cheap and better than a cardboard loom!

So I bought this for myself in order to make cloth as part of tote bags that I gave a presents. I would consider myself an adult :-P and I love weaving on this. The tension thing is a little wonky, but I just retighten it as needed. It's a pain to rethread (which I guess is why they sale refills). The wool yarn is attached to the loom via velcro, which means that you can't use other fiber types.

This product does not function correctly. The brakes on the weft rollers do not properly hold the tension. Overall, I am dissapointed with the product comparing the cost to the functionality.
