I found one of these for $20 at a K B Toys in Schaumburg, IL. I bought it along with the plasma rifle HALO 3 Covenant Plasma Rifle for $40. Both are excellent. It might be hard to tell from the picture but these toys are both pretty heavy. I would not recommend them for children under 8. However, I'm 24 and I bought these for myself. So, if you have a grown-up Halo fan in your family these make a great gift. The gun is very authentic the its video game counter part. You can shoot rapid fire of weaker shots or charge it up and shoot an single powerful shot. However one you do the gun will "overheat" and the top will pop up. You'll have to place it back down before shooting again. The gun also simulates a recoil by shaking when you fire or while you're charging it. The sounds are lifted directly out of the game and are completely authentic. Basically it acts and sounds just like it does in the game. The game also comes with "shields", which really just means its a laser tag set. The shields are a small box you clip on your clothing. When you turn it on it says "Slayer" just like at the start of an online match. It takes six regular shots or two powered shots to delete the shield at which point it says, "Game Over". After about 10 seconds it will come back on and start over again. The shields do recharge if you're shot but not finished off, but it takes a VERY long time. They don't make the recharging sound like on the game. There are some concerns. The gun and shields take 3 x AA batteries (6 total). On the note of batteries, I accidentally took the back off the shields while trying to put in batteries. When I did all the wires were exposed. It isn't likely but if a kid were trying to put batteries in on their own they could easily break it. As for build quality on the gun, everything seems pretty solid except sometimes the top platic piece will come up from an "overheat" and it will take some effort to get it to stay down so you can shoot again. I'm not sure if this is intentional or if it might wear down after a lot of use.So this is a fun toy and authentic to the game version. If you're using it for laser tag it would be better it you have more than one. It could also be used as an accessory for a Master Chief costume because it does look so much like the one on the game. Overall it is a real nice product that anyone who enjoys Halo would like.

I think this plasma pistol is really cool. I also think the best part is the overheat feature. This is one cool toy. I have this, trust me you have to buy this toy. I mean really. It is so much fun to play with friends with it.

By Matt
My two boys have this, and the other bigger plasma rifle. They are both very cool guns and my kids have a blast with them. However, I would pick this as the better of the two for a couple reasons. First, it's more durable. The fins on the rifle pop off and I had to come up with a flexible glue mod. Nothing flimsy to break or come off on this one. Also, this one seems to have slightly cooler sound effects. Both are great though. If you have two boys a couple years apart, I would suggest giving this to the younger (or rougher playing) child as it will hold up better. Great toy.
