Pretty good for the money. 3.5 / 5.

I had my Yamaha for 3 months, its sound unplugged is a solid 6 of 10 compared to my Ramirez A4 ($3.5K) and V Sanchis ($6 K). It does exacly what is supposed to do; good and easy to play, narrower neck is good for the electric players, looking for something different. I find myself playing the Yamaha more than my good stuff. Partially because I'm not worried about someone kicking it, since this guitar is built like a tank, it is heavier that it should be. I'm very pleased with its electronics, the dual pick up works far better than I expected. At under $600 it is a great deal. This is a good buy if you need more playability than sound!

This is a well built guitar, which has acted as my primary guitar for the last year. It has a decent tone which unfortunately does not project at all. This problem can be remedied by using the quality pickup system in the guitar. However, in a concert setting, this guitar does not perform very well for that very reason. For an amateur, and for a classical hobbyist it is an ideal guitar... It does offer great playability, especially if you're an electric or acoustic player, wishing to make the transition into nylon string.But, if you're a serious classical guitarist, avoid this guitar. I am purchasing the handcrafted Yamaha GC41 soon, as a replacement for this guitar. The GC41 offers a higher action and more significantly more projection, overall.-Doug

Simply put, the Yamaha CGX171CCA is an excellent Classical Guitar Value. I've been playing, not professionally, for years on acoustics and acoustic-electrics. In my opinion the tone and playability of this guitar is better than most classicals I have played, and far better than any in this price range.
