By Tex
I own a BMW R1100S. I originally sprang close to $300 for the bag BMW makes for especially this model, which fit and worked great until its elastic webbing fell apart at the forward mount. I decided to replace it with this bag from Chase Harper, and I'm very happy that I did. The written installation directions were a bit sketchy, but it's still a quick and easy-to-figure-out install, especially if you've done one before. Both fore and aft straps are plenty long enough to allow plenty of adjustment, so you can place the bag where you want it. I have it as far forward as it will go, and it's perfect for me and my bike. The build quality of the bag is very high. I have no doubt that it will last a long time, and it comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty. The size and shape is about perfect for my bike. It has more than enough room for the stuff I'm used to carrying around everyday in a tank bag, and it looks good in proportion to the tank. For a touring bag, some might appreciate an expansion gusset to add a bit more height, but I think it's fine for what I like to keep close at hand. To fuel up (I haven't yet), it looks like you can either 1)slack off the aft strap, undo the two front quick-release buckles, and pivot the bag back onto the seat, or 2) slack off the aft strap, unbuckle it, and tilt the bag forward toward the instrument pod. It will be easy either way. The interior of the bag is one undivided space, which I prefer. The bottom side of the top flap has some divided compartments that look potentially handy. The top side of that same flap has some smaller, flat zipper pockets that seem less useful. There are two mesh side pockets also. My garage door opener fits well in one of them and allows for easy, one-finger garage door operation. The rectangular, see-thru map flap on top is detachable, and since I have no use for it, it has been permanently detached, revealing the shock-corded arrangement on top, which again looks like it could come in handy. It's good in theory to have a handle to carry the detached bag with you, but the last zipper pocket crammed with a carrying strap is probably 99% useless for me. Overall, an excellent bag with good space and storage pockets that fits my bike just about perfectly. A good bargain for the price!
