Product Description
# "For this very reason, I preferred to reach for the pencil which surrendered its strokes more readily: I had found on not a few occasions that the rasping and spluttering of the quill had awoken me from my somnambulistic composing, distracted me and thus stifled a small product in the making." (Poetry and Truth) - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe Platinum plated beautiful Cap # Additional refills can be bought to replace. # The extender protects the point from breakage, while the robust clip stows the pencil away neatly in a pocket with no risks of damage to either # When you pull out the knob at the end, it reveals a sharpener # Add to that the eraser on the end of the pencil, and you have all you need in the handiest possible form

By Dom Miliano
For years, I have been a Faber-Castell fan. I have lots of their pens and mechanical pencils. At a pen show, I received a gift of one of their "regular" pencils. It came with a cap cum sharpener and the list price was $45. OK, I bought a couple of hundred dollars of their pens but the gift seemed very generous to me. I gave the pencil to my grammar school teacher, NY Sunday Times crossword addicted wife and it immediately became her favorite writing instrument. With that as preamble, I decided to buy some of these "Perfect Pencils" - if the basic unit is good, these must be amazing. I ordered the "refill" pack - 5 pencils without the platinum pencil sharpener - figuring that I had a Faber sharpener, just not platinum plated. I did handle the platinum cap/sharpener and it is beautiful and feels wonderful. Literally a piece of jewelry. When the pencils arrived, I ripped open the package with breathless anticipation. The ribbed barrel has a wonderful grip. The lead writes smoothly and is neither too hard (it doesn't rip through the Times crossword page) nor is it too soft (it doesn't smudge). Dare I say, perfect? Maybe I dare! But - reality alert - it is, after all, just a pencil. And it doesn't even come with a built in eraser (these cost extra!)... So, in the end, while I really am a pen and pencil snob and really dislike writing with crummy writing instruments, a pencil that costs $10 each without an eraser is a bit much, even for me.It's a great pencil. It has a certain cache' that I really enjoy (I did admit to being a pen snob, right?). But buying the whole package - $250 in all - is too big a stretch for even me. Maybe not for people with deeper pockets but even just the $10 each refills are a tough sell for me.Before you order on Amazon, pick one up and try it at a pen store - then you can get it through Amazon for the best price.

By Markman
When I first saw this pen in a fancy Pen store, I fell in love with it immediately.I have to agree that the cost of $10. a refill is a lot , however, our son will have this fine piece for a long time. He is graduating from college and pursuing a career in Architecture.I know he will love it. The weight and feel are great.
